Maddy and I met in our high school days. We fell madly in love but I wont go into that. In college we had our first garden together. She taught me how to care for the plants and after some success we were consumed with growing fresh vegetables and herbs. Shortly after we left for Hawaii to work in school garden programs and market gardens on the Big Island. We learned a unique set of growing techniques and the value of local food production. We have carried this knowledge with us into every growing opportunity we’ve had.
Since then we’ve worked on farms throughout Europe, started an urban farm in Flagstaff, Arizona and helped establish a diversified 5 acre farm for a high-end resort in the Sonoran Desert. Each of these experiences have been integral to our farming knowledge.
After the birth of our daughter, Sonora, in 2021 we thought seriously about our next chapter. Where did we want her to grow up, what kind of lifestyle did we feel was best for our family? The answers to these questions brought us home, we couldn’t think of a better environment for our little girl to grow up in than on a farm in Buena Vista, Colorado, the headwaters.
